Kate’s Books Donates 1,300+ Books to Life School Mountain Creek

Books will help spread literacy in the community and help children develop a love of reading.

Life School Mountain Creek, a public charter elementary school located in southern Dallas, recently received a donation of more than 1,300 new and gently used books from Kate’s Books that will be used to enhance the school’s library.

“We are so grateful to Kate’s Books for this generous donation to our school library,” says Eva Mease, Life School Mountain Creek Principal. “Life School Mountain Creek is strategically focused on literacy as it is a key indicator of student success. We are thrilled to provide more opportunities for our students to develop a love of reading.”

Born out of a desire to gift children with books and toys at Christmas, Kate's Books was founded in April 2016 by an 8-year old girl with a big vision. Kate, a daughter of two Dallas police officers, has been active in Santa Cops since she was an infant. After noticing that plenty of toys were given away, but no books, Kate had the idea to include books in Santa Cops’ deliveries. Since many kids in underserved neighborhoods do not have access to libraries, these donations are a great way to get books into the hands of those that need them most. Kate’s Books has expanded beyond the holidays and now makes donations to partners like Life School Mountain Creek throughout the year.

“We learned about Life School through a word-of-mouth reference. Luckily, we have never had to turn away a request for books,” said Kate’s mom Angela Arredondo. “We store the books we receive in our garage and storage sheds, and books are always coming in and going out! My husband and I are both Dallas police officers with more than 20 years of experience. Our daughter, Kate, is now 12-years old and in 6th grade.”

Life School Mountain Creek is one of 10 schools that make up Life School, a public-charter school district with more than 20 years of experience educating students in the Dallas area. For more information about Life School Mountain Creek, visit www.learnaboutlifeschool.net.
