Cockrell Hill Elementary students hosted a 9/11 Memorial Program on September 11, including student performances and guest speakers.

The program started with the DHS JROTC presenting the colors and leading the pledges to the U.S. and Texas flags. The Cockrell Hill Elementary Choir sang God Bless the USA and part of JayZ’s Empire State of Mind.

Special guest speaker Bryan Reed, a veteran who is the Deputy State Captain with the North Texas Patriot Guard, spoke to students about 9/11 and the ‘bullies’ who tried to change America, but how in many ways it made us stronger.

Other guests included Mayor Pro-Tem Curtistene McCowan.

The program also included a moment of silence, the National Anthem by members of the McCowan Middle School Choir and a solo version of Take Me to the King by fifth grader Jasmin Fletcher.

Cockrell Hill ES parents and additional guests joined students in remembrance of the tragedy as the school has done for the past 13 years.
