It's summertime, and you know what that means: Time to plan some family-bonding activities! With various age ranges and opinions living under one roof, it can be difficult to find an activity that will interest everyone. The zoo is always a great bet, but in the Texas heat, it's not always feasible. So, why not consider taking the gang to an indoor (and air-conditioned) museum? Surely there's something there that can interest everyone, and it's a great opportunity to educate the kids during the break from school. 

Here are some of the best museums the Dallas area has to offer. Which one is your family going to tackle first? 

Perot Museum of Nature and Science 

This one seems like a no-brainer. Even if you haven't taken the time to stroll through the museum's many impressive exhibits, you've probably glimpsed the strange architecture from the highway and always wondered what was inside. If your kids worry that nature and science museums are boring, then they clearly haven't visited this one. You can participate in dozens of interactive features, from races against dinosaurs to experiments with electricity. Not one member of your family will leave unsatisfied. 

JFK Sixth Floor Museum  

Surprisingly, most local Texans have never taken the time to visit the museum dedicated to one of the biggest events in our state history. Hundreds of tourists visit every day, so why shouldn't we? Get a close look at the building where a shooter changed the course of American politics with his drastic action. 

The Modern Art Museum of Forth Worth 

Created before 1900, this old museum has gone through many changes, but its dedication to preserving media from the World War II era has never died. You can examine hundreds of pieces of art, as well as a beautiful reflecting pool and the museum's interesting architecture. They also show films about the WWII time period, so you can take a step back in history and enjoy the many features the museum has to offer. 

The George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum

Okay, who doesn't want to visit a replica of the Oval Office? The GWB museum opened only four years ago, so it's still earning a reputation as one of the most interesting museums in the area. Although it might not sound like the most exciting place to spend an afternoon, there are actually plenty of interactive features. You can make decisions like a president, learn about the horrific details surrounding 9/11, and really take a peek into the life of a man who led the United States. 

Frontiers of Flight Museum 

This choice is perfect for those kids who can't get their hands on enough toy airplanes. Founded in the 1980s, the Frontiers of Flight Museum displays old aerospace crafts and has exhibits for both children and adults. Learn about the history of flight or pose for a picture in front of a model warcraft plane. Even if you're not super interested in the world of flight, you can learn interesting tidbits about America's history while wandering through the detailed space. 

Dallas Museum of Art 

Once again, this is one of those places you've probably seen a million times but never really taken the time to check out. Situated right across from Klyde Warren Park, this huge museum houses hundreds of incredible pieces of art. You don't have to be an art expert to enjoy the pieces: Just have fun meandering through the spacious exhibits and appreciating the artists' skills.
