DeSoto to Commemorate 62nd National Day of Prayer

All citizens of DeSoto are invited to participate in the 62nd annual observance of the National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 2 in the Council Chambers at DeSoto City Hall, 211 E. Pleasant Run Road. The time of the event is 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. "Pray for America" is the theme, derived from Matthew 12:21, which says "In His name the nations will put their hope." Please join with us in this great American privilege to offer prayers on behalf of our nation regarding our government, the military, the media, businesses, education, churches, and families. Light refreshments will be served.

In 1952, the National Day of Prayer was established by federal law when the United States Congress passed a joint resolution, which was signed by President Harry Truman. When the law was amended in 1988 and signed by President Ronald Reagan, it specifically designated the first Thursday in May as the official National Day of Prayer.
