The Dallas Regional Chamber introduced Stephen L. Mansfield, PhD, FACHE, president and CEO of Methodist Health System, as its 2014 board chairman during the chamber’s annual meeting Jan. 17.
In addressing the chamber after accepting the new role, Dr. Mansfield looked to the future and highlighted economic development, education, and public policy initiatives which will be paramount to the organization’s progress in 2014. “Our mission for the year ahead remains very clear: Together, we will lead the Dallas region to become the most economically prosperous region — and the most desirable place to live and work — in the United States,” he said. “You belong here with us, achieving these strategic goals and fulfilling this mission.”
The Dallas Regional Chamber is the area’s leading membership-driven business organization committed to promoting economic prosperity by leading economic development, driving improvements in public education, influencing public policy, and catalyzing and advocating for regional partnerships.
Besides his leadership position in the chamber, Dr. Mansfield is also on the boards of several other organizations: Dallas County Community College District Foundation, Dallas Citizens Council, MD Buyline, Institute of Healthcare Executives and Suppliers, North Texas Commission, and Dallas Medical Resources. He also serves on a number of advisory boards including thee newly-established Ned Ray McWherter Center at UT Martin and was the chairman for the 2010-11 March of Dimes March for Babies.
Dr. Mansfield was named to the 2011 Becker’s Hospital Review “Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know” list. In 2012, he was recognized with the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® Award in the health care provider category. In 2013, he was a recipient of the inaugural Becker’s Healthcare 2013 Leadership Awards and was named among the Dallas Business Journal’s DFW Who’s Who in Health Care. Most recently, Dr. Mansfield was listed in Becker’s Hospital Review’s 130 Nonprofit Hospital and Health System CEO’s to Know.

Before joining Methodist in 2006, Dr. Mansfield spent seven years as the President and CEO of the five-hospital St. Vincent Health System based in Little Rock, Arkansas, and before that worked for the Baptist Memorial Health Care System in Memphis for 23 years.
Dr. Mansfield has a Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration from Ottawa University, a Master's from the University of Tennessee Martin, and a Ph.D. in organizational leadership from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Dr. Mansfield is a 1970 graduate of Martin High School and his wife Marilyn, a teacher by training, an author and a public speaker, is a 1975 graduate of Dresden High School. He and Marilyn have a 25-year-old daughter who also resides in Dallas, Texas.
